Day 13 ~ Namche Bazaar

Another clear, but freezing cold day greeted us when we woke early this morning. Tim headed outside before everyone was out of bed to brave the weather and to take some photos of the sun hitting Ama Dablam’s peak.

After breakfast, we set off on another descent day. We said our goodbyes to some of the best views in the Himalayas and had a fairly standard walk to Tengboche, where we stopped for lunch.

From Tengboche onwards though, it was a pretty tough slog! There were quite a few steep uphill sections to contend with and a lot of steep downhill climbs. We were surprised that we made it up some of these hills early on in our trek – they were pretty intense!

Late in the afternoon, we just wanted to stop at any of the villages we passed through and spend the night. We were both physically and mentally exhausted! But Ram kept pushing us through and right on sunset, we made it back to Namche Bazaar.

We were super happy to find out that we had a large room to stay in with our own ensuite! We could finally have a shower after nearly 2 weeks of going without. Despite the hot water system being very temperamental, we managed to wash away 10 days of dirt and dust from our bodies and our hair. We felt so much better!

After dinner, we treated ourselves to a Snickers roll for dessert! These deep-fried treats are absolutely delicious! I recommend having one every now and then at the teahouses as they really do boost your spirits.

  • Trekking Time: 9.5 Hours
